How else would you shape a suppressor? I mean, it's a sealed volume to allow for the expansion of hot gases that would otherwise create noise. A cylinder (aka: Horsecock) is a pretty efficient way to do this, and allows for them to be manufactured without complex machining processes.
In fact, the Osprey design is more 'squarish' because it was a way to increase suppressor volume while not "blocking" the front sights. It is not as efficient as it would be if the same volume were in a cylinder, but it's more efficient than a cylinder that did not block the stock sights.
