E36s have weak front and rear shock towers. The OEM fix for the front is cheap, but requires removal of the shock. The rear is aftermarket and is available from a few places for 20-35 bucks. It will simply require pulling back the carpet and undoing the two 13mm nuts on the top of the shock and slipping the reinforcement on. Tighten those nuts back on and your good. No worries about alignment or even getting the car in the air.
