the scoop on the roof is definitely for driver/navigator air ventilation, like what RJ said. if they need to put a snorkel on the car (like for the safari rally) they will run a large black pipe from the intake, out of the engine bay, and have a scoop for it half way up the a-pillar. you see these sometimes on 4x4's.
