I had all seasons on the stock WRX wheels this winter and they are plenty. I still made it through around 12 inches of it this past winter with a lowered car. The tires aren't really what holds it back, it's the ground clearance. I had plenty of traction with the ASs but when the snow gets deep enough it just piles up in front of the car and basically lifts it off the ground and you get no traction. Snow tires won't really help this problem at all.
