My thinking here is that I would not have to compromise. Winter tires from Nov-March, then when it gets reliably above freezing go to a dedicated summer tires. *Since I am getting new wheels anyway* there is (in my mind) no good reason not to take the stock (skinny) WRX wheels and put snow tires on them. They can live under my porch through the summer, and then I'll have the ultimate winter setup also, even if I don't need it.
Honestly though, this is a pretty valuable discussion. Someone should make a thread in GD.
