All metal/hammer 229 vs half plastic/striker M&P... they're very different in the hand, and priced accordingly. Closest SIG to a M&P is probably the SP2022 (half plastic/hammer) which is $400-$500 new.

229 is not really a compact, 229 is a 226 minus just a little bit of height/length. They feel nearly identical and are equally accurate not to mention equally difficult to conceal. Mag capacity is 15 either way, for 9mm at least.
