I do not know of anybody who has had an accident on track and made a claim that has not been dropped afterwards. You can purchase track insurance, but normally the deductible is very high ($5000).
As for leaving the car on the side of the road, the usual excuse is that they swerved to avoid a deer. However, in doing so, you run the risk of being investigated for insurance fraud, which is a felony.
