How bout them Caps?
Mike Wrote:can anybody tell me why they went back to theo at the start of this season? varlamov's wiki page didn't explain it at all. i missed last night's game since i'm in boston and apparently the celtics and red sox are more important to them. what happened?

They didn't really go back to Theo, as much as they left the #1 spot open and allowed both to play. Varlamov got injured early on and Theo without a doubt outperformed him the rest of the season. Starting him in this series was the right decision. Played average the first game, and then gave up a two goals on the first two shots in the second and was pulled. At this point I think you have to start Varly in Montreal, but honestly he didn't play out of his mind last game, and he has been very average pretty much this entire season. We'll see I suppose.

Yup, probably the two worst defenseman thus far in the series for the Caps. No excuses made either, they both just aren't performing. Green's play on the last Habs goal (a 2 on 1) was absolutely atrocious. IIRC they were on the ice for 4 of the Habs 5 goals yesterday.

John Carlson on the other hand has been phenomenal. And then there is Backstrom

I guess the glass half full viewpoint on all of this is the Caps PP has been ice cold, they've gotten little to none secondary scoring, and their goaltending/defense has been subpar and yet they're still tied 1-1. Really if one or two of those comes around (and I would be shocked if they didn't) I still think they can win this series in 5 or 6 games. Although who knows, it wouldn't shock me to see otherwise.
