Most technology doesn't hurt you when it goes bad, although I tend to agree. There's a reason why I usually don't buy the first generation of pretty much anything that plugs in or takes gas.
Would it be better than the technology that it replaced though if that technology were advanced instead of replaced? Example: I don't think you will ever be able to get the voltage out of a COP setup that you can get out of a coil pack. The 1989 SHO's coil pack gives off a hell of a lot more juice than a 200X Duratech plug coil (the systems can be interchanged quite easily.) People tried the newer setup and found it actually degraded performance.
