80-89 Porsche
#1
We drove by a used car dealer "Toy Store" in PA this past weekend and a Porsche really jumped out at me. It looked just like the 930 poster I had on my wall as a kid. I contacted the dealer and he called it an 83 "Turbo". From my research, it should have all the suspension, brake and body parts from a Euro 930 but no actual turbo.

I'm really looking to get into something different, in about a year, maybe spring, if I get real itchy, and being more of a car guy than a Vette guy, I'd like to experience something completely different. It helps that the Porsche has jusssst enough back seat to suit the weekend duties. (soccer, tee-ball...)

I've starting reading a little bit, Motor Trend has a "buying guide" that provided some useful info about various changes through the years. And I saw another article about what to look for when buying. I'm looking for something a little more hands on though...

Just curious if you guys know someone that's owned one or talked to folks running them at the track. If I wanted to HPDE a couple times a year am I looking at huge dollars for consumables? What are my chances at having an 80K, 100K, 120K mile Porsche survive a few HPDEs? (Assumption: stays on track, pointed forward) Will an air-cooled car really survive a hot day in traffic? Any other words of wisdom, anecdotes, etc.
Current: 1985 LS1 Corvette | 2014 328i Wagon F31
Former: 2010 Ford Edge | 1999 Integra GS
I have a little bit of a rub near lock but if you are turned to lock on a track there are other problems already...
