For your first jacket i'd say stick with a perf leather one. Everyone crashes, may as well have a jacket that will survive it. Textile and mesh tend to be one crash jackets.
Just always wear your gloves, a jacket, and your helmet. I see so many fuckups riding around Tysons right now in their polos with their fancy bling watches trying to show their shit off.. and I see it because they're not wearing jackets or gloves.
It's something like for every foot you slide on asphalt, you lose a millimeter of flesh. That's not a good ratio in the event you go down. And the whole "But I'm not going to do anything stupid" argument is invalid, because you never know when there's sand/gravel/oil where you're about to drive through on a blind turn.
