another crappy course design, i may forego these guys' events in the future. it was a 1st gear course with two little straights that you could choose to pop in to 2nd for, and then right back to first for the hairpin or tight slalom afterwards, or cruise on the rev limiter for a seocnd or two... given my shitty tranny i left it in 1st... i have to wonder whether or not these guys test run the course, and if they do do they use a 4spd manual car? in addition, due to a lack of cones they have less than 3 pointers for the entire course, those just dictating which side you begin on a slalom... additionally, they have about a 10 minute downtime between heats (8 "run heats") on the day... that adds up when you factor in their 45 minute break for lunch too. it's just too long a day to be standing around a parking lot.
but i digress... car is set up pretty well right now, but i think i'm a little burnt out from all the autox'ing i've done over the summer. after summit this coming weekend i might call it quits for the season... but the need for speed will probably get the ebst of me.
1st run - gave navin a ride, got a 39.?
2nd run - gave brian (asian, but not maeng) a ride, got a 38.5
3rd run - went solo, got a 39.1
4th run - gave s2k guy a ride, and my family showed up so there was pressure. 39.6 + 2
5th run - gave s2k guy a ride, 39.1
6th run - solo, 39.4 i think
i really don't know how my runs were so consistent except for my fast one which was .6s faster than the rest, and it included a passenger. i felt silky smooth, and really could only improve on the straights where i'd just coast at 6k rpms. 38.5 was a decent time over the course of the day, i'd say top 10.
oh yeah, "s2k guy" was a older fella named steve. this was his 2nd autox (since mazda rev it up) and he was having some trouble seeing the course. i rode with him for a session, and damn is the new s2k a sweet car... torquey (relatively), balanced, and the mofo just keeps pulling... i'll take two. i left after my 2nd set of runs, so i didn't get to see if he succeeded in his final runs of the day, but i think by riding along with me he finally udnerstoof the course.
