How bout them skins?
stevegula Wrote:LaVar was worth letting go, as evident by his poor play in NY and his retirement shortly thereafter. I guess you think higher of Carlos Rogers than I do. But you also leave out other spectacular 1st round picks like Rod Gardner, trading a 1st round for Laverneous Coles, Patrick Ramsey, Jason Campbell.

How involved was Snyder's front office in drafting Bailey? He bought the team after that years draft.

Lavar was definitely worth letting go, but that doesn't mean he wasn't a good draft pick. From 2001-2003 he was one of, if not the best OLB in the NFL. Due to his knee injury he had a disappointing career, but I wouldn't call him a bust of a draft pick.

I was trying to say they have been very successful with their high draft picks. Ignoring Bailey (good point, that wasn't really Snyder Co's draft), the rest of that group still had 10 pro bowl appearances and that's not too shabby. Completely whiffing on a top-10 pick sets the team back pretty significantly (monetarily and talent wise) and they've managed to avoid that. The other picks were later 1st round picks, while they were poor choices, they weren't players viewed as the best in the draft.

PS. I think Rogers is hugely underrated. He's top 5 in the NFL in incompletion %, Yards per attempt, and passes defended... Most fans just write him off because he just can't catch to save his life. It's even more impressive when you consider the lack of anything resembling a pass rush from the D-line.

PPS. I'm not saying the front office does a great job, I don't know if they've ever actually "won" a trade. I'm just saying they've been very successful when they've been able to get "their guy", which is exactly what happened this year.
