I was shocked that Orakpo was still on the board at 13, and the pick was a no brainer. I guess the skins thought so too because they only used 30 seconds of their allotted 10 minutes to make the pick. He's an athletic freak the likes of which the redskins haven't seen in a long time, and was rated by most as the top DE in the draft. Skins got lucky.
I though Barnes, the 3rd round CB, was a good pick too. Smoot dropped off last year and Tryon shouldn't have even made the team, leaving us with a big hole at nickle corner. With 3 WR sets getting more and more popular every year, we might have ended up with a huge liability.
The LB's and TE/FB picks were really just guys they thought may be able to contribute on special teams. The kickoff and punt coverage teams are mostly made up of LB's and we had some serious lack of depth there. Probably why our coverage teams were terrible last year.
I would have liked to see an O-line pick or two, but that missing 2nd rounder really hurt. That was a primo spot to pick up a potential Right Tackle.
