They're cheap in fleet sales, dependable, durable, large trunk and interior space with loads of room for computer/printer, weapons, vests etc. Also very comfortable for the cops that pull 8hr shifts in them or longer
exactly...when your office is a car, it needs to feel comfortable. not to mention the shit they put those cars through. the vics are so popular because they're body-on-frame (easy to repair) with massive cooling systems, heavy suspension for hopping curbs, and big, understressed engines that will run for hours on end, idling if need be, or being floored to redline from a cold start every day.
i see alot of departments going to Tahoes for the same reasons. plus you gotta have alot of room to carry human garbage, weapons, bikes, whatever.
