This is my dad's computer running Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition version 5.1.2600

Start by disabling everything. If you want, leave systray.exe for your clock. As things dont' work, figure out which one it is in the list and renable it :-).

Disclaimer, I'm pretty hard core about my computer performance so I usually disable all the shadowing, 3d start menus, fading, and creature comforts.
