Stop contributing to the problem.

I guess I don't see how wanting to have a few weeks worth of supplies just in case anything (man-made or natural disasters) happens, trying to avoid being one of the first group of huddled masses (zombies?) huddled in the civic center, waiting for the government to rescue me is "contributing to the problem". I'm not selling everything, pulling all my $$ out and building a bomb shelter, I'm just taking a very small fraction of our $ and doing what I need to make me feel like a responsible human being.

And it's even easier to justify now. Saving $ in a bank is stupid, the interest rate is lower than inflation rate. And I can't count on making any $ in short term investments now. So I'll keep it. Better yet, I'll buy things that I use anyway and whose cost does and will continue to go up, economy good or bad. It's a better investment.

Exactly. Some people were already smart enough (paranoid enough?) to have figured this out and have been "prepared" to some degree for their whole lives. I feel silly for not having figured it out earlier, but hey, now seems like a good a time as any to correct my mistake.

I don't want to be the one holding the bag if this all does go down, the government cashes out, the rich people in the know cash out, and we're standing here with nothing. That's bullshit. We're supposed to be the ones in control dammit! We're spending all our money "spreading democracy" while socialism creeps in to our own country. China is laughing it's ass off right now. Oh, and they're not lending to us anymore. Oh, and another bank folded last night.

Did everyone get notice in the mail about the great depression? Lots of time to prepare? I just wonder if we're ignoring the the few signs we might get.
