either way, she is pissed - I don't recall any PC not being upgradable so that you can install a newer operating system.
iTunes would not install on my ex-gf's IBM ThinkPad. Just wouldnt. No real error messages, just wouldnt go on. New machine, fast and perfectly configured.
Then a couple of her friends lost their entire music collection (much of it bought on itunes) through an iTunes software crash. The solution from Apple support was to "buy them all again"
um...yeah
and Apples have never been very upgradable. This has been both good and bad. They abondon standards and technologies at the drop of a hat and move on to the newer and (sometimes) better thing, forcing the older users to buy new boxes. Hell, I remember when they were SCSI disks, only used Firewire, etc...
