has anyone here actually bought a 3g?

I have, only because I'm dumb and broke my original iPhone. It fell between the driver's seat and center console of mom's Crossfire. I got out and moved the (power) seat forward to get it and there was no phone... moved the seat back and fished it out:





Honestly, I think the iPhone is great, but if I hadn't destroyed mine I would not have upgraded. The 2.0 software added all the functionality, minus 3G data and legit GPS, so it's not worth it in my mind. If you don't have an iPhone, that's another story, but for existing users... eh, I dunno.

I have a white 16 GB, and no cracks on the casing. Nobody's come back in the store and complained or anything, and none of the store phones have any cracks, so hopefully it's not too widespread of a problem. If someone's phone does crack and they come and want a replacement, I'm sure they would get one. Just be nice - we see a lot of asshole-y people in the stores and if you're rude and screaming at the genii, managers, etc, we will be much less inclined to bend some rules and help you out.
