He said the only place he made it up was on braking, it didn't look like he had twice the traction/grip, to me, in the corners. Assuming a similar tire compound (which, I'm sure, they were different), wouldn't their cornering speeds be similar? I'm also guessing the bike could have been braking later and harder, but maybe the rider just didn't want to die?

Braking is a function of grip, both tires on the ground and the pads on the rotor. The car has more of everything. There was a TopGear test of an Ariel Atom against some bike and the Atom won because of the braking but it still had more traction in the corners too.
