I can't thank the guys that helped out enough. John (gsdewd) showed up not knowing any of us, and proceeded to be the key ingredient to making this project a success. I can't thank him enough! Give this guy some respect, he's top notch.
RJ and G were also a big part of this with more sanding and plastic hanging than any of us care to repeat, ever.
What started as an afternoon project ended as much more. I started final prep on the car at 5:30 Saturday morning and we were not finished painting until around 8:30 that night (before clean-up), and that was without any primer or paint on the parts that were off the car. Sunday I finished all of the accessories and they dried for most of the day. Tonight I'll get them put on the car and I'll take some pictures and post them here.
Overall I'm happy with the result. Black shows every imperfection and since I am not clear coating it there is some minor yet permanent orange peal in places. From the start I knew I was not after an expensive paint job though. Total investment including supplies is around $350.
The biggest lesson learned is that to do it right one needs a paint booth. The garage worked "OK" but it was cramped, cold, and too stagnant. I needed a larger space with heaters and some good downdraft.
I'll post some pics ASAP!
Thanks again for the help guys!
