School me on good starter bikes!
#35
A supermoto is, at heart, a dirtbike with 17 inch wheels and the same tires that are on any other sportbike. My supermoto wears the same tires that my F4 does, which happen to be the same tires I use on track. Their weight (the DR-Z400SM weighs in at 295 by the factory numbers) means that they handle incredibly well at sub-superslab speeds. Additionally, their body positioning allows the riders to recover from a lot of situations which would land sportbikes on their ass. If the road you're riding doesn't have you carving up curves at 80mph, then you're not going to have to try to leave everything in your wake.

An SM would make an excellent starter bike.

They're also becoming very popular, stylistically (witness Ducati's entrance to the market with the hypermotard). I get more compliments on my DRZ than any other bike I've owned.

All that said, if you don't like, you don't like it.

PS - my supermoto is the most fun I've ever had on a motorcycle. Period. Smile
When it comes to Ryan Jenkins, the story ends with me putting him in the wall.
