i can't explain it beyond just driving a constant 65 and the tire pressures were way up. it was an XLT with selectable low range/4WD so we just kept it locked in 2WD. typically we saw between 20-22 on trips and 16-18 around town.
pretty much any car can achieve higher MPG than they are rated for on the sticker.
