John, you could have solved most of your problems by just moving out of Northern VA

No desire for the rest of VA - I suppose I am a snob in that I still need infinite culture with intelligence, things to keep my mind fresh, and an environment that begs evolution. I think that the only U.S. cities I could live in are DC, Chicago, Denver, Austin, SF, and San Diego. Who knows - I may make concessions elsewhere down the road if the opportunity arises (some parts of OC/LA are growing on me, and Philly might be an option for grad school)...
