The Zombie Preparedness Thread
#2
In my opinion:

Vehicles are a bad idea in the event of a zombie outbreak. Your plow idea is a good one, but they're slow. A zombie could latch on and crawl into the cab, and then you're fbxrd. And I've never even seen a goddamn unimog. If I had to go far, I'd pick a dual sport like ginger's DRZ or a diesel 4WD pickup.

I also think you're on the wrong track with your weapons selection. Assuming zombies do not respond to tissue trauma (and they wouldn't, being zombies) then your hollow points aren't going to do any good. FMJ would be better (in my opinion) for penetrating the skull and destroying the infected brain tissue inside. Neither is a .45 really the best option. In an apocalypse situation your biggest concern is ammunition, and so the best weapon to have is one with common ammunition. This means 9MM (army/natl guard scavenging) or .40S&W (many LE agencies).

I'm also tempted to say that if a zombie is far enough away to shoot with a scoped rifle, it's too far away to be a threat. I would stick with two weapons, a 12 gauge pump action shotgun and a 9mm automatic pistol. The 12 gauge could shoot buckshot for medium range engagements, and slugs for longer ranges. One could keep the magazine loaded with buckshot, and then chamber a rifled slug when it was needed through the breech. Ammunition would be heavier and more bulky, but not as heavy or as bulky as carrying ammunition for two full size firearms AND a second weapon.

Also, a crowbar is a must. A good, quality crowbar. Hell, you ought to have one anyway.

As far as where to go, I mean, you've got that spot on. Where do people live? Go where they ain't.

I'd also think that a small radio would be crucial for survival. Everyone always forgets a radio when they talk about zombies.

Doesn't anyone else have the "Zombie Survival Guide"?
