You fret way too much over this car. As long as you leave the engine alone, it'll run forever.
With regard to the piston slap noise, yes I heard it on cold mornings on both of our subies. I'd imagine it's due to the boxer design. I've heard it from day 1 and I haven't had any reliability issues with it. I think Subaru actually issued a statement about that noise and confirmed that it's nothing to worry about.
