Yeah I will say that for some reason United just cannot get their check-in well organized. Some airports are better than others but I know I've been frustrated quite a few times with their inefficient setup.
The boarding pass thing happens to me occasionally, usually when I didn't buy a ticket way ahead of time. Usually no cause for concern, they just issue your boarding pass at the gate.
