So I got about the worst possible news I could get yesterday regarding the purchase.
My own company denied my employee discount because of a small loophole in the HR policy that nobody knew about nor told me about. I guess they were not going to tell me so that I'd find out at settlement and be forced to settle.
It doesn't change the affordability of the house for me, but it basically means I'd be losing almost $20,000 in cash that was promised to me as as check at settlement, and I initially lost the ability to negotiate on the house because it was an employee sale (another corporate policy).
Most likely I'll be cancelling my contract and getting all of my money back.
I can't put into words how bummed out I am. That house was the perfect house in the perfect location for me. I'm extremely surprised and disappointed that my own company would treat me this way, although it doesn't surprise me based on how we've treated some of our customers in the past.
I don't know what the plan is now, I've spent the past 24 hours in a drunken haze. Most likely I'll be securing a job down there first, moving down to stay with friends, and put a contract on another house that I can negotiate on. I COULD go to settlement on this one, but it would be stupid to go forward when I can save literally tens of thousands of dollars on another house.
