You didn't think they were going to send you over for milk and cookies, did you? That's a significant part of the reason the pay is so high.
Here's some tidbits I found: "Median annual earnings of environmental scientists were $47,600 in 2002. The middle 50 percent earned between $36,820 and $62,400. The lowest 10 percent earned less than $29,920, and the highest 10 percent earned more than $78,200". The article goes on to say that to really get ahead in the field you need a Masters degree and that the chief earners are employed with private consulting firms [where research positions are often only open to those with graduate degrees].... which is really all to say that you don't need to move to a "promotion driven" company if you want to get ahead. You need a serious resume boost either in the form of a graduate degree or... Kuwait. Look at the numbers - you're not going to earn $80K in your field in the states for a long time!
You're really staying for this girl? What kind of true love tells you she can't say that she'd be faithful while you're gone? I'm not trying to sound abusive... but you're talking about marriage and she's talking about cheating. I mean, seriously, that's a lot of bull shit. It's well and good that you enjoy spending time with each other but I think you're overstating her role in your life. This seems to be especially true when you hold your status for her in reltaion to her status for you. I've let a lot of opportunities slip away in the past over girls and you know what?
Big
Fucking
Mistake.
The girl that won't help you become your best, either by not waiting, urging you to halt your own progress in the name of her motivation, or whatever reason, isn't worth choosing around. If she can't be faithful for a year how in the hell do you expect to plan a lifetime together? The girl that IS worth your time won't work against you - she'll help you make more of yourself. She'll tell you to do what would be good for you, and this definitely would be, she'll tell you'll she'll miss you, she'll tell you it'll be hard... but she'll tell you you'll work through it together.
When it comes to Ryan Jenkins, the story ends with me putting him in the wall.
