As a matter of fact, I had a Lexus in mind as my next car.
And weight is a function of desired mass for safety. I, believe it or not, did a study on it.
Oh, and sedan weight is regulated by CAFE. The heaviest vehicles are SUV's. They also have't gotten heavier as a trend... they've maintained weight, for the most part.
