I've never had a radar detector. For interstate driving it's a CB all the way. Get a good antenna too, a BIG one you want at least a 5 mile range (got the take hills into account). Then set the channel to 19 and if you continually see class 8er's in the opposing lane and they aren't saying poo keep the hammer down. I've driven back and forth from the east to st louis several times, no problems and I kept it around 90 most of the way. It might take you a little while to actually understand what they are saying, but after a few hrs you'll pick it up.
