people like easy answers to hard questions. the issue you're getting at is, IMO, a problem with people being ignorant in their research, and interpretations of their faith (in this case, christianity). it all comes down to how someone wants to see something if they're given enough agreement, no matter how out of line it is with the core values of that which they believe in.
