Sounds like a desperation move. No matter what sales trick they pull, they can't refute the higher resale values/long term reliability figures of the very cars they are trying to demean.
And even if GM "knows" their product is better, that doesn't mean a thing if the buying public thinks otherwise, and with all the negative attention GM has been getting lately, they are thinking otherwise.
