The discussion about whether or not GM is a good business should be kind of irrelevant right now.
Both GM and Ford reached junk bond status in the fall 2005 as rated by S&P.... granted they are at B now but that's still 5 grades below investment grade. This should not be a statement qualified of a business on the cusp of re-reaching sucecss:

But, of course, when you've got progressives and nationalist sentiments on your side then you never really have to worry about whether or not the miserable government protection mechanism will kick in to save you and make the world worse off for everybody else.
