Unfortunately its really the only way to get a solid raise, or at least get your pay back in line with the area standards if you have a pretty significant underpayment thing going on.
Keep in mind... bigger paycheck = bigger taxes. The raise doesnt always work out to be that great, as I found out with my nearly 50% bump in pay.
