The whole goddamn thing applies today. Every word. There will be trying times for sure but the framers sure did a pretty good job with that document. Seriously...use the same logic on the 1st amendment, or the 4th... can you come to the same conclusion?
What bothers me is that the 1st amendment seems to be largely ignored, but the 2nd and others are always stressed. For example, senators calling for the 10 commandments to be displayed in government buildings etc.
Also, what do state constitutions say about gun rights/laws? Since most laws are created and passed on the state level
