It was in the Breeze last year, but JMU's policy is basically no guns on campus whatsoever. Windows Mediae would need or want a gun on the grounds of an educational institution.

On a private school campus they can say you can't bring spoons on campus if they so please but on a public campus I feel like a ban on firearms is unconstitutional. I dunno, maybe our resident lawyer can answer on that.

Either way banning firearms on campus certainly wouldn't prevent
something like this happening anyway. If a nutjob decides he wants to bring a gun one day he's going to do it either way.

Just because someone has a permit to carry one doesn't mean that they have the mental stability to not kill someone the second they get pissed off...

That's true with anyone, anytime, any place. The overwhelming majority of firearm owners don't go around shooting people when they get angry though.

if you really fear for your safety on a college campus, either transfer, or carry a knife/stun gun/baton or something and most importantly know how to use such a defensive weapon should you not have the option to escape the situation.

Self defense-wise a gun is not always the best weapon depending on where an attack comes from but its not really anyone's place to say what kind of self defense someone should use (short of hand grenades I guess).

For the most part I think people get a false sense of security with guns. Using a gun effectively at close range takes a lot more skill than just being able to cock the hammer and pull the trigger.
