I'm pretty sure an MSD coil and ignition module would help the break up at higher RPMs
I'm not sure if the coil can't put out the power or if its a triggering problem, but upgrades in the triggering is never a bad idea.
Ideally, the best bet is to go witha complete system from MSD, Mallory, or even Accel or Crane, and buy a distributer, ignition box (like a 6A or 6 AL) and a coil and a good set of plugs and plug wires.
It will give you a hotter spark and much more control over the timing.
I'm not sure if thats your problem or not, but if its got a really jagged curve at higher RPMs it might be something to look into.
