a friend of mine works at the IIHS where this test was done. for the bumper and fender tests, they just recondition the vehicle and sell them to the employees at a huge discount based on a lottery system. she's hoping to buy the subaru legacy or acura tsx. unfortunately, since these cars are all destined to be smashed, IIHS buys the absolute base model with no options.
