Interesting perspective - I realize this is a pretty skewed comparison, as it does not show the screen of a treo/pocketpc/etc, but compared to the regular phone browsing its a significant improvement in quality/usability.

I was working on a project as an intern when 'WAP' was on the bleeding edge and thinking to myself "there is no way this is going to catch on" as it was way too clumsy with a little dot matrix looking screen. Damn was I wrong - the group I worked for was just 2 years too early on it, and now there's a lot of people who's head would explode without it (Matt). Even now though, anything in a 'WAP' format is pretty restricted and clumsy and requires additional server side work.
