Would one of these old buggies make a good track car? A acquitance from HS called me out of the blue and asked if I would take his 74 Triumph off his hands...The talk thus far is $0.

Even *I* wouldnt touch anything old and British.........
For a trackday car, not worth the effort. For a weekend cruiser, maybe.

if it's in one peice, they're pretty cool to work on. just plan on pretty much restoring every inch of it. put that money into project Daytona and finish it dude!
on a side note though, there is alot of room in the engine bay. you could easily rock some old TD engine in there with some custom mounts.

My mom has a TR6. It's a good looking car with the top down, and it's wheel/car size ratio make modern day thugs jelious. Inline 6 with dual carbs makes it a fun cruizer as said before. But also as RJ said, it's British, which means you'll be fixing it 1 hour for every 1 hour of driving ;-).

I will probably get tired of these reliable japanese vehicles one day and buy something british.
I've always loved the way those old TR6's looked..... but man, I can only spend so much time in the garage

I've seen the car before. It looks something like this. Only black...and a little more beat up. It is a 74 not a 54...they are not a family of car guys. It was a restoration project that fell apart. The car runs and drives fine, has fresh paint and all. It just has some rough body work and needs a little TLC. They are getting into airplanes now and they just bought some sort of plane and need the space. So they are getting rid of the car and its spare parts. They tried selling it but "couldn't find any buyers" and want to "give it away to a good home." A good home = me.

i love triumphs and i think $0 is a good deal, but british sports cars are incredibly picky. a guy i work with has a 68 sprite (maxwell smart) thats fully restored, a 63 belvedere and used to have a 70s MGB and he said he hated all of them except on sunny days.

I love when rich people clean out their garages! Is it really gonna be that much of a POS? The boy says it runs like its on rails. But as said earlier...not a bunch of car guys in that house. Sylvia wanted an MGB for awhile and never got around to getting from the old man who was selling it. It was a much bigger POS then this. Free.99 is the best price.

I'd totally rock a TR6 as long as I had a daily. Joan's dad had an Austin Healy when he was younger. He loved it even though it barely ran and caught fire on two separate occasions. Most of the British car reliability issues can be solved now with updated aftermarket wire harnesses. You could also stick a V8 in it.
Two feet.
My dad has always wanted one.

Yeah... thinking about tooling around in one of those is a nice thought. I just would not want the headache... but for free... I'd take it.
