Could either be from the brake master cyl or the clutch master - if its under warranty, take it in today - dont wait on that.

please be very careful Feersty....check your resevoirs, but i'd consider calling AAA if you have it and have it towed to a shop. The clutch isn't the worst one, but you don't want your brakes failing you

What, like a pre-sale inspection for proper brake function?

The brakes worked fine when I test drove the car. My shoe didn't slip like it was on ice when making contact with the pedal.

But did you inspect the engine bay and brake system for leaks?

Of course he didn't, and I wouldn't have either. You buy a 2 year old car from a DEALER, and you expect it not to have things like, leaks in the brake system, leaks in the gas tank, random fires, glovebox gnomes, that kind of thing.

Your first clue -

Dealer cars are trade ins and auction junk. I bought exactly one car from a dealer, went over it pretty thoroughly before I bought it, and it turned out to be a colossal piece of shit.

My advice - make them put it on the lift and take the wheels off for you to spend 20 minutes digging around it if you intend to buy from a dealer.

At least the warranty is in place.

not really, the dealers send the junk to the auctions, not the other way around. (used car lots are another story)

your car turned out to be a colossal piece of shit because it was a saturn... Wink

I'm not sold on the whole dealer car - it's a hit or miss thing. My father usually buys program cars (lease trade ins, 1 year old company fleet cars) that are 1 year old and have about 20k miles on them. The last 2 he bought have been great:

92' Dodge Shadow, RIP 144k miles with a bad tranny, was a company car - only problem it ever had was the original timing belt broke at 120k miles (non-interference 2.5 engine) and that it used a decent amount of oil since new (never burned it that we saw, never leaked it - he just put 1qt of supermarket quality oil in it every 500 miles)

97' Taurus GL - Hertz rental, still going with minimal upkeep, 135k miles

He currently is driving a 2003 Mercury Mountaineer (which I have dubbed the Canyanaro.) Bought it thinking it had 19k miles (what was listed on the sticker) only to find it had 24k miles after signing all the papers. Brought it home and the car had been off-roading (gas tank was dented in, mud in every crevice under the car.) He brought it back to the dealer, they claimed that many of their cars had gotten stuck in their muddy auxiliary lot and that the car had been used as a loaner to a dealership employee, then proceeded to replace the gas tank and clean all the mud from underneath the car. So far, the car has had the following problems with a little over 50k on the clock:

-Broken interior release handle ($40 at the stealership)
-Broken tailgate latch (recall under warranty, rear glass would rattle and open at random times - it was actually quite funny.)
-EATC broken (heat and AC randomly don't work)
-Rear-window washer nozzle broken (hole in tube under car)
-Burns a little oil on a cold startup
-Front brakes dead at 45k miles (even with 4-wheel discs and dual piston calipers up front) - at least they were easy and cheap to change
Why do people just post what they are thinking? Without thinking.

i would've expected the same and this apparently didn't happen for a couple weeks after the purchase. Seems like to me that the dealer may have covered and cleaned something like this up and assumed they either fixed it or it 'went away'. Another possibility is that this actually happened after the purchase for some odd reason.

Either way Feersty, get this checked out pronto. Hydro fluid is quite important as you should know. If you need any help lemme know - i'm close by.

Wholesaler's buy our junk, most dealerships who are worried about their name will not sell the junk on the lot. I usually sell some of the older crap to my friends...or sylvia...or buy it and flip it myself in a few cases. You gotta watch the little corner used car lots. I have seen 4 of our total POS junk cars turn up in 2 lots in Winchester. 3 of the 4 I raped for aftermarked audio goodies...lol

Anybody who wants to see a shady used car dealership, check V&L auto sales on South Main by the Taco Bell. There is not a car on that lot that hasn't had 3 or more body panels replaced, improperly installed and poorly repainted. Most of the airbags in cars are of a different color. One time I stopped to look at an SHO on the lot, and the Focus ZX2 next to it was painted 4 different shades of red, pinstripes starting and stopping, doors and hood misaligned. Just in case you cared Confusedhock:

I had heavy time constraints, I didn't want to buy a domestic but I did. I have a warranty, no sense in wasting your breath on what-ifs.
