FMIC question
#1
hey guys,
I got this off the net for $65. Its a 1st generation of the Starion IC. I have already cut the pipes off and got it ready to get some 2.5in pipes welded on. Should I just ge the pipes put on and sell it for a better one or should I just use it because I have it? It looks to be Tube and fin.

lots of DSM guys go after that as a cheap upgrade, IIRC. I bought one as my original FMIC for the mkIII supra, but ended up selling it for more than I paid for it on Ebay. You need to determine what kind of boost you will be running and how much hp you want. However, the larger the IC, the more lag b/c it has to pressurize a larger space.

FMICs are great for big turbos running a lot of boost. Otherwise it's going to be a lagfest. If you have a large turbo and will be running lots of boost, go for it! I was looking at a FMIC, but I decided against it due to the unbearable lag that others with my turbo experienced with one.

Hmm, Lag has never been a problem with ICs on Turbo Dodges. A TII (Garrett T3) turbo with a powerstroke IC is common. I mean, I know I want a FMIC. I just dunno if I wanna rock this one or get a new one. Thanks for the input, I understand that lag can be a problem in some cars but I've never heard much from TD guys. My boost will be 18 on the high side prolly 10 on the low setting, the turbo can go to 30.

PS- The bigger lag issue for me will come from a restrictive exhaust housing.

Keep the one you have...

Restrictive exhaust housing wont contribute to lag really, it will just choke the turbo off in the top end - which may not be an issue depending on the rest of the setup.

You are right RJ, the LARGER exhaust housing causes the lag. The small one spools faster but lacks the flow for max on the top.

Ditch it. I don't understand why we're talking about size or lag....we should be talking about efficiency. Which that intercooler lacks.

Pick up something better.
