The lovely PO of the s2k replaced just the rear tires (with some charming little Kumho 711's), and the fronts need replacing pretty soon.
The 711's aren't available in the right size for the front (I'd be alright with running them on the street, and YES I know they're not very grippy).
So regardless of whether I get four new ones or just fronts, I just want your guys take. I've been running Falken Ziex 512 all season things, and I actually think they're decent tires for the money...but sometimes I have a really hard time judging tires.
Anywho, I demand opinions.
i've got one kumho 711 in 225/45/17 if you want it

711 are poop. ziex 512? not much of a step up, but a step up nonetheless. may also want to look at the kumho 712. i believe it is the same rubber as the 711, but a much better tread design.
for daily driving on those big reumz you gots, you're gonna have to spend some money. what are the tire sizes?

Clarify my post... I dont run the S03's on the street, just think they're a great tire. Falkens for my track car. I did not like the Yok ES100's I had on the BMW.

16's aren't big. 205/55 front and 225/50 rear.
S-03's are awesome tires, but I don't want to spend that much, especially for a 220 treadwear tire that would be lucky to make it to a year.
I've tried 712's (eh), es100's (eh), and the 512's (eh, but cheap) on the e30, so I know what I'm getting with those.
I've heard good thing about the RE750...I think.
EDIT: Even though I know I'm limiting myself, I'm gonna want all-seasons - I don't want seperate summer/winter wheels.
Good all-seasons = Pirelli PZero Nero M+S
I've heard nothing but good things about them, and will probably buy them as my winter tires. Check the reviews on tirerack.

The Pzero Nero has a pretty soft sidewall from what I've heard. It might be comfy, but you won't get much performance out of it.
Bill, if you said "eh" to the 712s you're in for a heck of a time with the 711s

True. You won't get the performance out of it as you would an ultra high performance summer tire. From what I've read only, as I don't have any experience with them, they have very above average dry traction though for an all-season tire. Their sidewalls can't be any worse than my Potenza RE095 stockers !

For all-seasons, I put some BF Goodrich Traction T/A's on the Golf right before we sold it. Those were actually pretty impressive in the wet, and pretty reasonable in the dry. Cheap, too.

Same I've heard. They're an excellent all-season.

Oh crap, I forgot those. Recommended them to my roomate in college based solely off their tirerack review. They were some AWESOME tires. I was ridiculously impressed with them. Granted it wasn't on my hatch so I can't give a fair review, but on his shitty soft accord those things gripped like whoa and handled snow like it was their J O B.

PDenbigh Wrote:Fuzion ZRi's seriously. these things have great grip rain or shine and are dirt cheap. I'm running these on the supra and 240 and have nothing but great things to say. They've also held up very well on the autoX and track events, although Chapin managed to chunk his down at CMP earlier this year.

According to RJ, the track surface down there is very abrasive and eats tires up. Since then we've put at least 3000 miles on 'em and they've held up very well. Excellent, excellent grip in the dry. They just stick - and for ~$300 mounted/balanced, can't go wrong there. I think I liked the Traction T/A's better in the rain though, can't quantify why (and of course it was a different car).
My two feet.
Awesome guys, great advice.
The ZRi's are summer tires, so they're off-limits. Fuzion does have an HRi (that's like crazy cheap), but I dunno.
I'll just get two front tires (hooray for mismatches!)...probably either the Traction T/A's or the HRi's and feel it out. Apparently the rears wear quicker than the front on S2000's, so I'll just kind of see what happens.
Not intended to be an end of the thread, just putting my thoughts down.
i wouldn't negate the ZRis as an all season. I know it is against all that is tiredom, but I'll explain. I've driven the supra around in all conditions on Kumho MXs and 712s. The 712s weren't tooo bad, and the MXs were nice and sticky but were awful in anything other than dry. In the rain I could occaisionally feel myself hydroplaning on the MXs, when I didn't have a whole lot of tread left (read: typical inspector would be appalled). The Fuzions have swayed me completely. I have more traction in the rain now than I can probably say I've ever had. It may not be ideal in snow, but you can still do it. The s2k isn't exactly ideal for that situation anyways. Get something that will allow you to enjoy your car and just be more careful in inclement weather.
And yes, you will eat up tires in the rear. I think I've been through 4 sets of rear tires since 02 on the supra and this spring replaced my fronts for the first time.
Dave Wrote:The s2k isn't exactly ideal for that situation anyways. Personally, that doesn't make choosing poor tires okay.
And if you say 712's are acceptable in snow...hoo boy. This is me getting pushed downhill while trying to drive in snow with them:
i agree, choice of car shouldn't have much to do with the weather, since choosing the proper tire can pretty much negate any ill effects of a poorly suited car
i dunno, I just always seem to be drawn toward sticky stuff, since it really doesn't snow that much here.
