Brake Rotors - Does it matter?

Rotors are a wear item for a track car. Rotors can be expensive, or not. Some things, you get what you pay for, but for rotors, am I better off just buying the cheapest ones I can find and assume that if they at least last a few events then thats good enough? Basically, I'm upgrading the Z on the cheap ($175 for the brackets and a couple of hub-centric spacers) to utilize much larger (12.5" vs. 11.2") front rotors - from the '94-'99 3000GT VR-4. Those rotors ain't super cheap - I've found "Value" rotors at Brakewarehouse.com for $38/each. The generic rotors from Autozone are $80/each. Other rotors (brands like Powerslot, and Rotura) are up to $150/each. Do you guys run budget rotors (I know Maeng does), or do you spend more for a particular brand?

Even if the $80 last longer, they wont last twice as long as the $38 rotors.

Only brembo replacements for me. I get a season and a 1/2 out of them with carbotech XP10's. The last set I took off wern't even cracked they were just a little heat checked. Those cheap ones from autozone won't last 2 events.

This was the first and last time I bought expensive rotors.
They were $200, and lasted 1.5 events. Cracked all the way through. (and anyone who has ridden with me knows how impeccable I am about cooling the brakes down before even touching the pedal)

the best rotors I have ever used were cheap and made by a company called "Mountain" in Japan. Those things took abuse on the WRX like nothing else.

miata will take a whole season on a set of rotors and still look brand new.

brembo "blanks" are good rotors, but nothing special. they are junk metal just like all the other commoditized rotors.

Im with the cheap guys, they will work fine. Talk to Matt at Carbotech and he will say the same thing.

Not really. $145 for the omni and like $210 for the Sebring. The ones going on the omni were left over from my Lebaron, I took them off after my friend wreaked it. I went a little overboard with the brakes on the Sebling but it was good, the car stops better wet and dry. PS rotors, carbon metallic pads, and AutoZoneÔÇÖs "blingish" brake drum shoes in the rear.

Ok, Rexy. I've done the whole rear drum to disc conversion thing once. The Lebaron went from disc/drum to disc/disc but it took two days of work and like $500. I put a whole new rear axle, pannard bar, and brake set-up on it. It was worth it in the end, but this car has ABS so I am not fooling with it. I mean, if you gotta have drums they might as well be top of the line! Also, the Sebring only had disc/drum on the 5X100 bolt pattern, the pattern got bigger (5X114???) for the newer disc/disc cars.

Holy shiz-nit. Got the rotors via UPS yesterday. Huge. Ab-so-fucking-lute-ly ginormous... Now if only I could get some spacers (H&R 15mms for Z32 areon national back-order), then this will be *the* setup...
