4 or 5?

Mike "what I have is better than everything" Collins Wink

5 lug is by definition superior to 4 lug

Pat Griffith lost a wheel on his 4 lug SE-R at an autoX a couple years ago due to stud failure.

If you loose a stud or lug on a 5 lug car, you still have 4 lugs, and a larger portion of the wheel clamped by lugs. 4 lugs you have much less clamp

All good thoughts. Everything on this car is being overbuilt, so why stop at hubs.

5 lugs it is.

Thanks guys,
Peter

except its not that rare....

at least as high on the list as any suspension component failure, and made worse by the fact that human error can make it a much higher probability

Yeah, it's not my human error that I'm worried about, it's the Jackass in the white hatchback that thinks he's perfect that's all over the track playing pinball off the corner stations.... ;-)

Hey Pete, are you gonna fix up the front end of the Merkur? Get black rims with a polished lip, they will look soooo tight.

i'm a genius. seriously, i wouldn't want 5-lug on my car. the entire setup adds about 40-50lbs unsprung weight. on a car with power that ins no big deal... on a momentum car? big deal.

but then you can't the bling-bling'in JDM Type-R wheels to match your mugen oil cap Tongue

I'd probably say let the weight of the car and the power of the engine, matched with the ability of the transmission to transfer the power to determine what lug pattern you decide. I feel a strong engine, matched with a weak tranny will have a harder time transferring the power with more lugs and heavier hubs. I don't know a lot of knowledge related to this, just basing it off of what makes sense in my head. Avaliablity of brake rotors and caliper sizings might also take into account here.

I assume you are being specific whe you say "on my car... 40-50lb"?

On my project, I get different rear hubs, and then just have the hubs redrilled/tapped/studded. So I'd add, maybe 5 pounds total.

yeah yeah, on my car. the itr parts necessary (or nsx or prelude or accord) add 40+ pounds. if it's only going to add 5lbs, go for it.

heh. momentum car.
try telling that to a Formula Vee racer.

Whatever weight your application adds is irrelevant.
5 lug over 4 lug itself is not significantly heavier itself.

that extra 40lbs on yours is due to beefier hubs and bigger brakes, neither of which is a bad thing to have on a track car

you assume that you are hot shit because you think you can go faster.
put the engine that came in the car back in and maybe someone will give a shit.

and let me know when you even come within 5 seconds of 2:23 at VIR-f like those "slow" miatas

did i not make valid points for 5 lug v 4 lug? granted it may not be applicable to pete's application, but it may end up help someone else.
