Wut? :evileye:

I guess I have a weird view of the m3s. E30 M3 and E46 M3 were race engines on the street, with harsh drivetrains, and bone-crushing suspensions. The E36 M3 and e92 M3 are good compromises. Torquey, smooth motors, heavier than their previous counterparts, but have split personalities. Cushy/nice around town (remember the E36 is 90s and compare relative), and then fabulously good in the corners/backroads.

I just drove back from NJMP in my mom's e46 m3 and was reminded how seriously hard that suspension is for a factory vehicle. Although high-strung motors are cool, I prefer the powerband in smooth powertrains such as the S52 and s65.

Remember, just my opinion even though I may piss off some purists.
I think if BMW just gave us a hardcore Lightweight/GTS M3 it could satisfy all M3 lovers. Regular model for people who want something that is a balance of comfort/luxury and performance, hardcore model for people who don't care about motorized seats or moonroofs. Only question would be if the hardcore model got a DCT.

It's unfortunate that every model has grown so much over the years. I think it really de-values the model name, as now the 1-series is what you'd want if you liked the old 3's.

I may have read this statement or ones similar a million times but it didn't actually hit til like ten minutes ago....

Dammit, you bought a Montreal Blue E36 and haven't posted a project thead yet? WHY MAN WHY. I love that color.

A brand new 128i has nearly the same power-to-weight ratio as an E36 M3 (13.9 vs 13.4 lbs per HP). Crazy.

Looks like it will in fact come in at a 3300 lbs curb weight, lighter than the E46. This generation M3 is shaping up to be the tits.

the TMIC is an interesting choice...it'll be interesting to see how they're able to cool that much intake charge over a long run like a track session. i guess DI helps cool the charge in and of itself as extra help?
