Can you still tell me how it upstaged it? It still LOST. The mustang was slower. Now if you want you can say well it was close, and is it worth the extra 15 grand for that extra tenth of a second I could understand. So it lost in the track comparison, it has less "feel" (although Pobst did think the mustang had better balance). So in track terms....the mustang still lost, but is it worth the 15k-25k? For track only, probably not, but then you start putting everything else in it, comfortability, ergonomics, sound system, luxury, options......oh wait maybe it is worth the 15-25k.

So to say it upstaged it, I dont see it. If one were buying for pure performance at that price range, go get that ariel atom, if you want pure luxury at that price range, buy a Lexus GS300. Both the Mustang and M3 are the middle-grounds attemtping to mix the two. The m3 can mix both better, but no shit, its more expensive, the mustang can be 99.99999999% of the track performance of the M3, not quite have the same feel and luxury, but at 25k, if track is what you want but still be civilized, its not a bad one either.

This is why I personally beleive that RJ and Mike are call this magazine wanking, you look at a few numbers and zero in, if you look at the whole package from a third point of view, you realize its not that.

New for new id buy a mustang over a m3 anyday if cash flow was a concern. But I also wouldnt buy either so it really doesnt matter, just getting sick of the fanboi INTERNETZOOORZZZ headlines that only promote ignorance. Either way, im done, no point. Mustang trapped higher in the 1/4 mile; which you would expect from a muscle car...so in that race it won.

The BMW has so many intangibles that are hard to measure objectively, so I guess these performance tests are the only objective way to compare.

If my car were faster than either of these cars, there is no way I would take mine over either of these if given the choice. Track performace is not everything...in fact for street cars it's just a small part of the equation.

I havent really read car mags in a long time, even when I was still big into it. Most moto mags are the same way. Lots of noise and words, little substance. Its good to hear they're doing real track tests with real drivers though.

I think the mag have gotten a bit better at least. Before they wouldn't even run cars through a real track. They would do a drag race, braking, test lateral G's, and slalom.
