Some have tried. Many have perished. Many thought I'd never do it.
Yesterday, I put down a deposit on an M3.
$13000
1998 Techno Violet
Mulberry interior
92k miles
BBS Wheels
Dinan Signature Series 2 package - no plaques... ECU/Susp/Intake/Exhaust/braces
Every single preventative maintenance thing has been done at a dealership.
Superb records
So I have been looking for a while and have driven some 95s. A 99. Even a 91 E30. (The E30 is a fuckin race car) And then I found this one. It's a gorgeous car. A couple nicks in the wheels from curbing, but it's used. The interior is in great shape. A couple carpet stains, but besides that, it's GREAT for an almost 10 year old car. It was owned by the (now retired) number two guy at sgi. Now he works with startups in SF. Great contact who I'll be sure to use later down the road in my current venture. He babied it. Never tracked it. That was left for his *other* E36 M3. Now he's ditching BMWs and is enjoying his new 911 Turbo convertible with 520 whp.
So, back to the car. It was *spectacular* to drive. SO much torque compared to a stocker. Sounds like a monster when you get on it. Feels like a good, tight, M3. It's great :-). I can't complain at all. I took it on some twisties and boy oh boy, I missed power. The subaru still feels like it has some torque, but no power whatsoever compared to the M. The RWD is tons of fun. I just feel great driving down a twisty road, heading into a tunnel, getting on it, and enjoying the inline 6 do its magic. Has a sexy german rasp to it
I got preapproved for a loan and now I just need to sell the suby and pick up the new car this weekend.
