Post your Dyno results, pictures, etc!

I didn't get to see every car run or hear final results for everyone. Please post what your car put down, maybe list the mods if it won't take 3 pages. Also, any pictures of your car or anyone else's on the dyno would be great too. I didn't have a camera, so any pics of the old van would be great too!

I was a little disappointed with what the van pushed down. The OEM states crank power for that engine at 140/180. So I basically made up my drive-train loss with my mods. The AF did some CRAZY things on the first run and it was rich almost the whole time.

The A/F actually makes a loop...WTF. DJ seemed to think it was the transmission slipping...I'm not so sure. As for the jagged shit at the end of that same run, they told me maybe my spark plugs were messed up. Rex and I pulled them and they had a bit too much gap, but the electrodes were not eroded and they were in good shape. NGK coppers. We re-gapped them, maybe that will help. The plugs seemed to suggest it has been running lean, bit that does not seem to be the case on the dyno :x Anyway, while we had the plugs out we compression tested...150 across all 4. Maybe I don't need a new engine after all! Just a bigger turbo and more boosts!! Rex also suggests that I do something with my cam timing...that stuff is all Voodoo to me.

Van made 138hp and 178lb/ft. That was an pump premium w/ 13psi of boost.

Displacement - 2.5L
Turbo - Mitsubishi TEO4H
Intake - Ford Thunderchicken top mount w/2.5in pipe where possible, K&N filter
Exhaust - 2.5in from the turbo back, stock Cat intact, no muffler

Sounds like fun! I agree, I think it was your trans slipping. I heard it a couple times, I think the speed actually decreased a touch in that range, RPMs back up, graph goes in reverse. I haven't given it much thought, but that kinda makes sense with the 5 sec I've thought about it.

Like I said in the other thread, I'm super happy with mine. aFe drop in filter, straight through exhaust with empty, annoying, ricer muffler. Otherwise uknown state of tune. Looks like there's no reason to run past 6k on track, all the torque is there at 4 1/2. Stock HP is 134, so 119 at the wheels likely indicates mine is a touch above the stock rating?

BTW, I hate the way the graphs printed, maybe rotating the page and ranging the scale on the left would have resulted in a more usable graph. The A/F is great, but the top is pretty squished! Sad

I think Rex has talked me into doing a 16v Hybrid in the van. So over the summer "Project" and "Daily" in my sig might flip... Smile A well built 16V should throw down at least 300hp. The 8v in the Daytona should be just under 300...I guess we will see at the fall car show if Dryft is still aro....if we have the show there again

Jeff, I was impressed by the van. So was the guy driving it on the dyno, from the look on his face. Also the gap on your plugs could have had a little to do with the rich a/f mixture, even though at WOT you're going to be dumping extra fuel anyway. If you want some help with cam timing, let me know, its not all that hard to learn.

I'll agree It probably was the transmission slipping, it didn't make any sense until I actually thought about it.

Channing, I'm sure your car wasn't as bad as the Miata we dynoed when I was at nascar tech, or the cup cars we did. I think it echoed a lot more in the dyno room down there too.

Either way, it was great to watch the dyno pulls, even though I missed the heavy hitters.

I dont have a way to get my graph up - but I pulled 230/280, and the graph was jagged as hell..not sure why there, but max RPMs were 5500

Do you have an HEI distributer?

Because HEI ignitions break up like a mofo at anything over 4000 RPMs

Yes, HEI distributor - what do you mean they break up? signal loss to the dyno?

Erratic spark timing.

hrmm, so is that what things like these MSD ignition modules and whatnot correct? I havent really looked into it?

I'm pretty sure an MSD coil and ignition module would help the break up at higher RPMs

I'm not sure if the coil can't put out the power or if its a triggering problem, but upgrades in the triggering is never a bad idea.

Ideally, the best bet is to go witha complete system from MSD, Mallory, or even Accel or Crane, and buy a distributer, ignition box (like a 6A or 6 AL) and a coil and a good set of plugs and plug wires.

It will give you a hotter spark and much more control over the timing.

I'm not sure if thats your problem or not, but if its got a really jagged curve at higher RPMs it might be something to look into.

nice torque curve Chan....that thing's diesel! by the look of your A/F you might be able to add some fuel to it, maybe get some more power.

Jeff, the youtube video of your dyno pull is hilarious when the BOV freaks you out. can't handle the bling?

It scared me because it vented REALLY fast and REALLY loud. Normally its more like a Turkey call or a fat man laughing.

That VW was impressive Blair, can you tell me what he was tuning with? It would seem he is running lean, and if he pulled down the A/F to around 11 he could run a lot more boost and see some serious power  . God I would have hated to accidently bump into that car in the street.....hmmm I need to tune, and possibly bigger turbo.....ack NO!

I should have bitched and got them to redo that one pull. I only got two pulls worth looking at, the second one messed up some how. That VW was consistant. I would like to know a little more about the specs there. What does the VR6 make stock?

typically the VR6's make about 175 at the crank so i'm guessing 140-145 at the wheel

that was a nicely built VRMKII ! Big Grin

A vr6 stock is about 175 hp. with basic bolt on they are good for that to the wheels. my car is around 165-175 whp. that white car has a buiilt motor and an obvious turbo kit. Its a pieced together kit and made by him. tuning is a simple plug in chip that controls timing and fuel. That AF shown there isnt really worth looking at. a sniffer in the tailpipe is totally not correct at all, especially since he is running a cat. The car was dynoed at 14psi, his chip tune is good for about 18psi.

350-400whp is fairly common with a vrt

its a very cool sleeper though.. thats for sure. He has fun playing with sportbikes on the highway
